Pet Socials give King's Creatures clients a place to practice the skills that help their pets become confident therapy animals and Adventure Pets out in the real world.

These aren't doggy playdates, and your pet doesn't need to greet everyone they see. In fact, we practice the opposite! Pet Socials are all about helping your pet learn to stay calm, engaged with you, and comfortable around other people and animals while you enjoy being out together.

Each month, King's Creatures hosts a Pet Social at a pet-friendly business in Carmel, Indiana or the surrounding North Indianapolis area. These structured training outings are exclusively for pets and handlers who are actively training with King's Creatures in person, have completed a King's Creatures training program, or are current KCAT Club members.​​​

WHAT DO WE DO AT A PET SOCIAL?

At a Pet Social, you and your pet can:

  • Practice calm, neutral behavior around other pets and people

  • Reinforce leash skills and real-world manners

  • Build the skills therapy animals need for successful visits

  • Practice being an Adventure Team in pet-friendly public spaces

  • Participate in training games and low-stakes challenges just for fun

  • Support local pet-friendly businesses

  • Connect with other handlers working toward similar therapy animal and adventure pet goals

 

Every Pet Social is a little different because real life is a little different! One month we might practice settling while people chat. Another might include walking past other dogs, navigating a new environment, practicing greetings with people, or simply hanging out without needing to investigate everything around us.

The goal is to give you another opportunity to practice enjoying real life with your pet.

PET SOCIALS SUPPORT THERAPY ANIMALS

There's no fee to participate in King's Creatures Pet Socials, but a suggested $5 donation per animal-handler team benefits Living Creatures Ministry, a nonprofit therapy animal program.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

Pet Socials are structured training outings for current and former King's Creatures clients and active KCAT Club members. Pets must be appropriate for the environment and able to participate safely. Email info@kingscreatures.com with any questions about eligibility.

All dogs and cats in your home must be current on rabies & distemper/parvo vaccines and you must provide proof of a fecal exam within the last year with no parasite seen for participation in any services.

A current bordetella vaccine is also required for each dog.

Other vaccine and medical requirements may apply to your species of pet.
